Today was Lounge-around-in-my-PJs Day, which was so nice after yesterday. I had to go in to work an hour later than usual, which put me smack-dab in the middle of the worst of LA traffic. It took me 2 hours to go the 37 miles in to work. Ugh. Anyways, lots of interesting TV this week.

Fly-by impressions of House, American Idol, Lost, and Bones. )

Aaaaaand, I haven't been able to keep up with the flist lately. What's up?

Well this is interesting. I e-mailed my old boss (from pet-sitting in LA) just to see how things have been, and she was wondering if I could cover the business while she goes on her honeymoon in October. I covered while she went on a 3-week vacation last year, and it was the most stressful thing ever, so it wouldn't be fun, but it's great money and I could visit all my old friends up there (that was the worst tense-shift sentence ever). So YAY for having some work on the horizon.

This makes me feel better about...not having applied for anything the last few days. In my defense, the internet was down the past day, but it's more the horrors of writing cover letters that has been holding me back.

Fandom-wise, I'm being pulled three ways. In the past few days I've read X-Files, Doctor Who, AND West Wing fic. I'm hopeless. (But OMG Doomsday broke my HEART. I miss Rose, I miss Rose, I miss Rose. On the one hand, heart-wrenching, gut-twisting shippiness. On the other, I desperately want more! A few eps in season 4 isn't gonna be enough, and I so wish I could have another season of Ten/Rose).

Happy April 25th, everyone!

Stan Fields: Miss Rhode Island, please describe your idea of a perfect date.
Cheryl "Rhode Island" Frasier: That's a tough one. I would have to say April 25th. Because it's not too hot, not too cold, all you need is a light jacket!

Possibly the best line ever in a fic - from Jen's post-The Cold fic "The Ramblings and Doings of an Insane and Desperate Man":

Yet still I practice for the day I triumph. I put my key or keycard onto a table then practice grabbing it in a quick and stealthy manner. I knocked over a glass of diet coke yesterday.

Ohhhh, I haven't laughed that hard in ages. Remind me to send squee-ing feedback.

Toby: "I think you don't know why you came here. You're a woman with a lot of options. You're acting like the world's backing you into a corner, bouncing from one thing to the next - from Bartlet to Santos, to Danny, to me. Maybe you should stop bouncing, pick something. What do you want?"

CJ: "I don't know."

And alive. A quick summary: my last update (mid-August), I was thrilled because my internet had come back up at home. Well, not so much. The very next day it went down again and I only got it back about last week. So it's been the better part of a month without internet access. I'm trying to catch back up, and start reading my flist aain. It seems like so long!

Anyways, life has been going like normal here. Ups and downs. I switched over my animals - I miss Salsa every single day, and the camels turned out to be the most miserable part of this new semester (I got in an argument with a few of my co-trainers, and now I basically have no say in the baby's training, which was the entire reason I wanted them). At least Friday (the raccoon) is adorable, and training well. I'm training her to target to a laser pointer, and she picked up on it so quickly! AND, the new crop of students started taking over cleaning duties, so for the first time in over a year I'm getting sleep! I mean real sleep. SLEEPING IN sleep. And oh, just a week of sleeping in as late as I want has been heavenly, and done wonderful things to my mood.

But enough about sleep. What's up with the fangirl in me? [livejournal.com profile] ranee42 and [livejournal.com profile] imperviousness have been my crack dealers, sending me files of fannish importance ;) I can't thank you two enough. I've been skipping between fandoms lately but West Wing has won the latest round, and I've been re-reading my favorite WW fics (pix's Crash Into Me series and Jo and Ryo's A Winning Strategy series). Shipping is good for the soul ;)

Aaaaaand, that's about it. Oh! Comedy Central is starting Scrubs reruns next week. SCRUBS!! How I missed that show. You probably won't see that much of me around once that starts up ;)

Ugh.

I can't believe it's GONE. Like, it just hit me that my ship is gone! Next time I see Bradley Whitford on TV there will be no Donna at his side, ever again. *sniff* I can deal with the rest - just pop in a DVD or a tape and rewatch an old episode, but the ship was just getting INTERESTING again! I need an on-going story to keep track of. I need lots and lots of FIC. *whimper*

This is not in any way spoilery, is it? I'm just being paranoid.

I got my hair cut! Haven't had in cut in ages but finally today went driving around, found a "Hair Cuttery", and got it chopped. It feels so light. Wow.

Anyways, today I learned about my dream job. )

This weekend, we also had some fun, known as Krista, Katie and Mem do LA. )

Finally, West Wing has been fun. Sunday's episode was spoilers? ) And that's all I have to say about that. Where's Joey? I wanna see Joey. And Danny. I miss my secondary characters!

BRAVO just finished airing What Kind of Day Has It Been (the episode with the shooting at Rosslyn), and wow. Just wow. Even now it blows me away.

And that's all for now. Thanks for reading!

I just cannot keep up with LJ. For the past week, at least, I've stayed stuck at skip=75-100, which is several days behind. Although the past week has been one big hell-in-a-handbasket and next week is Spring Break so finally sanity may have a chance to return! Of course I still need to go in every day for shows, feeding, and the like, but no sit-down lecture classes! JOY! Also we open at 8, which will be an amazing blessing. Have been so short on sleep lately.

Zoo News )

And then there was the trainwreck that was Election Day )

Was that it? I think that's it. Oh, Spring Spec was CRAZY last weekend, but I don't have the energy to go into detail about it, and you probably don't care anyway, so I'll just leave it there then, shall I? Yes. ;)

I asked for, and received, my 6th animal assignment today - Nuez the agouti. This brings my total count to

Goblin - Hamadryas Baboon
Salsa - Catalina Macaw
Sage and Spirit - Cougar brothers
Sadie - Sheep
Julietta - Emu
Nuez - Agouti

Holy. CRAP. I am crazy. But Nuez was on the extras list for the 3rd and final time - the bottom of the heap, as it were. And he's just so cute and adorable. The agouti is a small South American rodent - about the size of a rabbit with long spindly legs. Nuez has a strange fondness for peeing on people's legs, but he just gets so excited about anyone coming to visit him - he makes this high-pitched squeaking sound and tries to get as close as possible. So cute!

But what was I THINKING?!? I'm going to be so busy this summer, not to mention this spring as I try to turnover on all 6 (7, if you count the 2 boys) animals. So we'll see how this goes. It sure is going to be interesting!

I have so much to catch up on...I had a massive test today so I've barely gotten on-line at all in the last few days. I'm also very short on sleep. But I think I did well on the test, so that's good. And even though classes are cancelled Friday and Monday, they've scheduled zoo workdays for both those days, meaning I'll be there the whole day. *sigh* No holiday for me.

But oh, oh!! There's been BIG shippy West Wing spoilers going around and though I resisted at first, I caved within a day and read them all. SQUEEEEE!!! I just may die of happiness when March gets here. *silently freaks out and dedicates herself to fannish pursuits all weekend*

I don't check my friendslist for a day and I come back to discover that John Spencer (West Wing's Leo McGarry) has died. God. It still seems like some kind of sick joke. I don't even know what to say to that. It's just immensely sad. People have been posting their favorite Leo quotes or moments, and I can't believe there will be no more. It just has made me realize how much I loved that character.

"This guy's walking down the street when he falls in a hole. The walls are so steep he can't get out. A doctor passes by and the guy shouts up, 'Hey you. Can you help me out?' The doctor writes a prescription, throws it down in the hole and moves on. Then a priest comes along and the guy shouts up, 'Father, I'm down in this hole can you help me out?' The priest writes out a prayer, throws it down in the hole and moves on. Then a friend walks by, 'Hey, Joe, it's me can you help me out?' And the friend jumps in the hole. Our guy says, 'Are you stupid? Now we're both down here.' The friend says, 'Yeah, but I've been down here before and I know the way out.' "- Leo McGarry, Noel

My West Wing seasons arrived! Eeeeeeeee!! Of course, it's the worst possible day for it. I have a big test tomorrow that I have to finish studying for and I have to make Behavioral Enrichment for the cougar boys (which will take a while), and now all I want to do is watch my West Wing! Gah.

But squeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

Well...

Wow. What a week it has been. What a DAY it has been.

I was in a minor fender bender at the zoo today. I backed out of my spot in the parking lot, and while I was watching behind me, I admittedly wasn't watching to my sides. But the other girl wasn't even watching behind herself as she backed out of the opposite spot. She hit my car on the side, though at a very low speed. Just caused some cosmetic damage (a dent near my wheel), which I really don't care about. I'm just glad the car still runs!

Then while on rounds of the zoo, I found one of the Show Rats dead. Poor rattie! And then I had 2 hours of cramps before I could get home and take my blessed Ibuprofen. Strangely, it was a fairly pleasant day despite all this.

The second-years leave this weekend and I care for my new set of animals next week! I've got the quarantine bunny and the capuchin troop again, but I'm very excited about feeding the cougar boys every day, and even talking to the coyote finally. Her and the wolf were howling a lot today, and I had an absolute blast howling with them. I've missed it so much!

Finally, I'm an admin at Creative now. Whoa. Knock me over with a feather. Ummm...anyone want their title changed? *L* That's about all I know how to do ;)

Oh, right! And I made an icon a few days ago. Go me. That's the first time I've touched Photoshop in AGES. I rather missed it. Maybe I'll make some more sometime. Only this one took me 2 hours to make, as all my icons do. I just can't stop tweaking! It's a very bad habit of mine.

ETA: Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] ranee42? You are a BAD INFLUENCE. I bought BOTH seasons 1 and 2 of West Wing on Amazon last night. And it's all your fault. You and my sister.

West Wing drama - Here Today spoilers )

End drama. God I hate to be that person. LJ has enough foolish drama as it is. So what not-drama thing can I say? Oh yes, I spend the next three weeks in Carnivore area ;) There's a tiger, 3 mountain lions, a hyena, a lion, a wolf, and 2 servals in that area. And best of all, I'll get assigned animals from that area to take care of when the second-years leave again in 3 weeks. I get to feed big carnes again, yay!

Tada

West Wing thinking )

I went to Malibu the other day with a friend, just because we both are from out-of-state and a little star-struck by it all. ;) We didn't see any movie stars (or, any stars at all), but we admired the ocean views, the expensive houses, and had a great old time window shopping. It was a HOT day in Moorpark, but pleasantly warm in Malibu, so everyone was at the beach or in their swimming suits. We forgot our swimming attire, so we just settled for ice cream. It was a wonderful, relaxing day. Our next targets are Ventura, Pasadena, and Hollywood. I am just loving it here.

Malibu Barbie....pffft ;) )
