My mom called to tell me to listen to A Prarie Home Companion on NPR - they broadcasted from West Lafayette, Indiana, which is right next to Battle Ground, where Wolf Park is. During the half-time greetings, they mentioned Wolf Park and the founder, Dr. Klinghammer. I miss it! I miss my wolves, I miss the work and the experience, and I miss the people. I miss our trips to West Lafayette to go grocery shopping or eat out. As much as I am grateful for the chance to be here in Moorpark, nothing lives up to that summer in Indiana. *sigh*

The Olympics need to start NOW. If they're going to pre-empt my show, they may as well give me something to squee about. Gawd, I LOVE the Olympics.

Oh, and I FINALLY got a Josh/Donna mood theme. Hee!

I'll miss you, my little Nebber-Nebs. You took such pleasure out of your morning meatball - you put so much effort into lifting yourself up for that little piece of dog food. And you were so cunning, breaking them open to avoid your pills. I'm glad I got to walk you and scratch your belly. You were my little old lady and I'm amazed you lived so long - I'm sorry I didn't get to see you again before you left. My little white wolf.

*snork* OK, I wasn't gonna post today, but then I saw this and just had to share.

Some interns at Wolf Park went to a Harry Potter event and got some Harry glasses. And they put them on one of the foxes. hehe. Oh, I miss Wolf Park.

Also, I'm shopping for a CHEAP one-night hotel stay in Las Vegas (for the 2nd night of our 3-day drive out to LA), and every single hotel seems to have some sort of topless event. One has a topless swimming pool. I just keep envisioning walking down the hall and passing topless people *L*.

She did so with a theatrical sigh, glad to have something to laugh about in the midst of a dire situation. Although, they did that a lot. Dire situations. And laughing at them.

From fairygnome's "Getting Back to Kansas". Just because I liked the line.

Capstone is dooooooooone! Done! Woohoo! You know that feeling when your BIG project/work/final is done? I got a big rush of that today. And am still riding the high.

Done done done done done! *hops, skips, and jumps around journal* Now just a few papers to write, one final to prepare for...really, ridiculously easy stuff in comparison. And Friday is Wolf Paaaaark! I get to see my WOLVES! And the PEOPLE! And hang out with my college buddies without capstone looming over my head. Oh, at this point in time, life is grand.

On top of all this, watched The Incredibles tonight (funny!) and even caught an episode of West Wing. And I got a package! Have to wait for the mail room to open tomorrow to get it, but packages usually mean good things. Especially unexpected packages.

Only downer: I missed both of the David Duchovny things in my capstone haze. I should be able to catch a rerun of the Daily Show tomorrow, but the Actor's Studio is a lost cause. Oh well! Nothing can bring me down from this high. *wants to share joy with all of you*

I was having such a wonderful day. I haven't written all weekend because I felt a bit sick AND I had some big assignments due today (a paper and a presentation to give). Well, I finished them this morning and that left me free to enjoy Dogsledding this afternoon.

And sad news... )

So...

It's been a while, hasn't it? I've taken to hooking my laptop up in the dining room so we can have music in there, but that meant I was far too lazy to carry laptop and various assorted wires over to the office, so I just haven't been getting on-line, or when I have, it's been from the intern computers (and I'm far too attached to Semagic). So...I had lots of things to update, but not the time or inclimation to do it.

So...let's see what Fiona remembers (Wolf Park) )

And so I don't forget, last week's Stargate and Atlantis )

So...on Saturday I head off to Chicago for the Stargate convention, yay! I bought tickets-plus-autographs for Saturday and Sunday, a total of $180 (ouch!), and my mom got a hotel room at the convention center, which is even more yay! So I'll get to meet Michael Shanks, Don S. Davis, Christopher Judge, and Amanda Tapping! Heeeee! This is definately one of the best birthday presents ever. Now...I'd just like to see if anyone else is going so I'll know at least one person there. Must spam Stargate communities!

Ok, this has been one HUGE entry and I'm sure I've forgotten a lot, but that's what's new with me!

ETA: Dude, LJ is messed up. It says my last entry, which I posted from their website on my birthday, was posted September 15th. Ummm, no.
memento1: (CSI - Jorja)
Happy birthday to me...hehehe. And today I turn 21! I feel like "the young one" after realizing all the other interns here are at least 22 already. So...there was talk of doing a kareoke bar, but I think the plan instead, is to have a campfire, invite all the staff, and make s'mores. Hehe. So apparently, no alcohol, which is fine by me, as I hate the taste. I think that will be a great way to spend my birthday, though. I also get to sleep in (yay for Sundays!) and it's Wolf/bison demo. I think it will be a good day.

Wolf Park )

OK, now for what you've all been waiting for, the latest Stargate! SG-1 and Atlantis )
memento1: (Kitty)
Eeeeeheeehee yay!!!!! I called home to wish happy birthday to my sister (18! How?!? That's just scary, y'all), and my mom kinda let me know I needed to organize for that Stargate convention in Chicago because that's my birthday present.

SQUEEEEEEEEEE!!!! So I'll stay an extra week here at the park (very good), then meet my mom in Chicago for the convention. Eeeeeheee! This so totally makes my week, day, month.

SO so excited.

I, Robot

memento1: (TV)
So yesterday was a crappy, crappy day. I could go into detail about the crappiness, but I really don't care to relive it or document it for all eternity. So let's just say it was crappy and leave it at that.

Today, on the other hand, was much nicer. Wolf Park )

We were invited to the movies with Monty (the staff photographer), so a few people went to The Bourne Supremacy, and Monty, Pat, Veronica and I went to I, Robot. It was pretty good. Not outstanding or particularly memorable, but it was action packed, funny, and entertaining, so I was happy. On the ride back, we were commenting on Monty's techno music, and he played for us his Russian Hip-Hop Techno, so I now have on loan a very eclectic and totally Monty mix CD which includes the Hamster Dance song and Sesame Street Techno. All in all, a very good day ;)

Soooo....I rock. Very much.

hehe. No, seriously, after about an hour of tinkering, I figured out how to record off the TV with SOUND. My "New Ground" recording is pointless because of the lack of sound, and I didn't even record Atlantis for the same reason. So I decided I would figure out the problem today before the new episode airs. Turns out the sound never even got to the TV/VCR. It was routed out of the satellite box directly to the speakers. So I rerouted it to the TV with the DVD wires, and it worked. Yay! Good thing because I had to record it while I was at Howl Night, and they watched a movie after we got back. So I haven't even SEEN the episode yet (I'm going to watch it tomorrow), but now I know what I have to do to record all the new episodes. And I am a happy camper.

Wolf Park )

We had a meeting today about the delisting of the eastern Grey Wolves. The government wants to take the eastern population segment of wolves off the Endangered Species Act and the protection it offers. This means the wolves in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan will lose federal protection and have to fall under State Management, which often isn't as good. More importantly, the rest of the upper midwest and eastern states will have no obligation whatsoever to protect wolves that wander into their state, so that pretty much stops wolf expansion in its tracks. I don't know what to think about this at the moment...I've gotten so used to bad news regarding the environment it's hard to become worked up about it anymore.

Oh, and just for kicks...I fell in the latest trend and made some textures today. I'm going to wait until I've made some more before I upload them all, but I'm quite proud of my first 'experiments".

Forking

memento1: (SG-1 - WTF?)
Sorry it's been so long. I was sick. First with a stomach virus, followed closely by a cold. But so much has happened. First off, tonight...

We forked Amanda's house. Amanda is our boss at Wolf Park, and today is her birthday. She's on vacation, which simply means she's off work for the week, and we, along with Holly, another staff member, decided to "fork" Amanda's house. This simply involves sticking plastic forks into the ground all over her yard. So we bought 400 plastic forks at Walmart yesterday, and tonight, after checking to make sure her car was at TC's (the local bar), we went and forked her yard. When we dropped off Holly at her house, she suggested leaving a note, so we wrote "Hope you have a "forking" good birthday. -The Gnomes" and left it on her door. On the way back home, finally, we see her car is still at TC's, and we decide the note would be funnier on her car. So we go back to her house, pull to a stop...and she's on her porch. On the phone, looking at us. It was the creepiest thing ever, and we just flew outta there and home, but that was a hilarious end to the night.

It's been a terribly shippy day. For some reason I got to thinking of X-Files during the endless recycling runs today, and I was happily replaying scenes from Je Souhaite and Per Manum in my head. And then after watching SciFi's Stargate Monday I got in the mood for some Jack / Sam fic (which I have yet to read, but I'm still in the mood).

On the topic of Stargate, Eeeeeeeehee! I've been so behind. A behind-the-scenes special on Monday???? SQUEEEEEEE! I can't believe the new season is starting so soon. I need to resurrect a squee icon for the ocassion.

Things...

I've started working on a new layout for Aurora. The problem is I want to totally redo my site, and I don't know how I should organize it. I want to compact most of my site content onto ONE main page, but I don't think I can do this. Too many people link to individual pages (such as brushes or my icon tutorial) to make a compact main page feasible, plus eliminating thumbnails (which is one of my objectives) creates even more problems, such as how to display my massive gallery of icons. I just have too much content to put it all on one page. *sigh* There goes that plan. And I still don't know how to organize it the way I want. Ugh. Makes me not want to redesign at all.

How do friggin ICONS break your bandwidth? That's about all I do recently, and I was proud of the fact I had my own site to host them on and everything. [livejournal.com profile] barenakedally has been so very very kind and helpful, raising my bandwidth and everything, but it keeps exceeding, and the most plausible explanation is that someone is hotlinking. And that makes me very, very mad. Now I'll have to forbid hotlinking, which means I'll have to start putting all my icons, buttons, and anything else I myself hotlink on Photobucket. And that just pisses me off. *sigh* And I hate being a burden on Ally, because she's been so very nice to host me even though I've changed fandoms and make almost exclusively icons now.

For those of you who replied to my last tirade about Creative, I thank you. I don't think I'll ever be able to leave *L* But I wasn't really talking about leaving anyway. At most I'd stop modding, which doesn't mean I'd give up Creative entirely, and I was mostly just talking about taking a break for the summer, seeing as how I am seriously running low on hours in the day to fit it in. I overslept this morning from lack of sleep, mostly because I stay up so late finishing Creative. So I am still considering it, though as usual I'm putting that off until I'm absolutely sure.

Wolf Park )

Random pointless stuff: watched A Few Good Men with the other interns. Not bad. Twister tomorrow. Oh. And RDA is CUUUUUUTE. Yes. Someone posted a cute Jack icon. And I squeed. Call me fangirl.

Wolf Park )

I don't know if I can keep this up. My connection here is pretty slow (compared to what I am used to) and I can only get on late in the evening after work and dinner, and even latter on Howl Nights or special events (like last night). I stay up very late just doing Creative and LJ. If I want to do something like make an icon, I have to lose even more sleep. I honestly am considering asking for a leave of absense from Creative for the rest of the summer. I sometimes wonder why I still do it. Modding has basically lost its appeal, though I still like...well, being a mod and having access to the Mod Room. Selfish of me, eh? ;) It was a lot funner when we used to have Mod Chats on AIM, but that has stopped altogether and I never even see Tere anymore. I put so much work into modding, and the payback is dwindling. I'm basically only staying on for my few remaining mod friends, and because I love being a part of such a great forum. *sigh*

Anyways, Happy (belated) Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] duckadork! *throws confetti and hands you a chocolate-covered Jack*

I've wanted to make a Wolf Park icon for a while now, and I finally did. Had to ask Monty for permission to use one of his pics, and it's the puppies! Aren't they cute?

ETA: Michelle got an extra, free McFlurry at McDonalds so she gave it to me. Yay!

We regret to announce the unpleasant passing of Memento, who on the 1st of April of this year was randomly cannibalized by some guy named Clyde. This unfortunate incident occurred in the forest in Las Calamas, CA. The deceased was reported to have shouted "I should have listened to my horoscope!" just before expiring. Memento is survived by several houseplants. Funeral services will be held the 7th of next month.
