memento1: (Lost - Shitty)

I think I broke my Kindle. My birthday was 2 weeks ago and my mom got me a Kindle. And I've loved it. Aaaand, I just had it on my bed and leaned back with my elbow accidentally on it. I heard a crack. And now it's got a crack in the image, with most of the screen unresponsive. Just because I haven't had a crappy enough summer. I suck.

Good news for you, Chica - I did exactly the same thing last week, and they replaced it. For free. I had my new Kindle within three days. Here's the link for contact info:

I actually knelt on mine, but I may have fibbed a little tiny bit and said that I'd dropped it just a couple of feet (which it should have been able to withstand, apparently)... The screen cracking issue has been a big deal for them, though, so they seem to be very cool about trying to help their customers through it. Just give them a call, tell them what it's doing and I'm not saying you need to lie necessarily, but... Well, maybe a little. Hmm. Now I'm starting to feel guilty. Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck, and don't fret!!!

Thank God. I actually did do my research, found that was a common problem, and totally have a free replacement coming. :) I did fib juuuust a tiny bit as I discovered it easily cracks while being carried in a bag, too, so that was my excuse. It was exceptionally flimsy to break that easily. But I SO appreciate the advice! I was about ready to cry. For good measure I'm now buying a cover to ensure this doesn't happen again.

BTW, because I am a horrible, lazy person (and having a very bad summer), I have to say I've been meaning to review Murder in the Marriage since I finished it last week, and just haven't gotten around to it yet. But it was FABULOUS. To be honest, this last season kind of ruined the show for me, so I'm not reading Bones fic anymore. But you are the exception and MitM just reminded me of how much I LOVE those characters. I much prefer your Booth and Bones to the ones now on TV - they make me want to strangle them with how stubborn they can be sometimes, but I never for a second doubt how deeply they love each other. And you keep finding interesting ways to keep it dramatic and emotional and interesting while still warming my heart in the end. I haven't yet started Apprentice on the Island, but I am so excited there is more to read. At risk of sounding like a broken record, you are one of my favorite fic writers (and I've been reading fic for over 13 years) and I'm so glad you're still writing! I am still rooting for you to get a publishing deal because if you write it, I will read it.

Aaaaand, I still feel guilty that I should really give a more in-depth review of what I thought of each chapter, but that's a start, isn't it?

So glad it worked out for you! I'm totally obsessed with my Kindle at this point, so I freaked when it broke. Must say, I was super-impressed with the great customer service.

No worries on the lack of MitM reviews - I'm just glad you enjoyed it! And thanks so much for the incredibly kind words about the story; it continues to be one that I love telling. And, though I really try to be upbeat about the show itself, I do admit that the past couple of seasons of Bones have been a little bit harder to love. At least, they have for me. I'm still watching, and still writing, but the characters and stories that resonate the most for me are from the earlier Bones years, at this point. That could well change in the year to come, of course.

Have you subscribed to BW? That's a free, online fanfiction/fiction/fandom magazine that I run; it's delivered to your inbox on the first of each month. The website is at

AND I actually have a novel coming out at the end of October - the featured characters, Anna and Diggs, are introduced in Apprentice on the Island. This month, BW will have a short story featuring those characters, along with a sneak peek at another, shorter book on my animal rescue exploits living in a former elementary school in Kentucky, that will be available for a $1.99 download on Thursday. Plus, BW has some hella good fic from a whole bunch of different fandoms, an interview this month with one of my favorite vidders, bumcrackmosh, another interview with [ profile] biba79 on navigating the wild world of fan events, winning fics from Buffy, Angel, and the X-Files... Yeah. It rocks. If you haven't signed up yet, you should. If you have signed up, you should tell your friends to do the same. They won't be disappointed.

All right, enough of the hard sell. Thanks again for the kind words regarding my fic, and so glad your Kindle woes are easily resolved. Hope your fall is better than the summer was!

But there is warranty, right? Does the warranty apply for this case?

There is a warranty that only applies to "regular wear-and-tear" and after researching, I found a LOT of people have had similar experiences. So I risked calling and inquiring, and they are totally replacing it free-of-charge. Thank goodness. That thing is flimsy.

After reading this I went and asked my husband "Your Kindle did come with a warranty, didn't it?" He looked at me with a startled/horrified expression that said "what did you do?" LOL, Then I quickly explain why I was asking before he panicked.

Glad to hear it worked out getting a new one. Didn't know they broke so easy. I'll make sure Mr. E keeps that cover on his.
