memento1: (CSI - Holiday Sara)

OK, first off, I've started the LA Zoo job taking care of reindeer. And I promised pictures, so here they are!

*L* OK, that's Cash. But there's REAL reindeer under the cut.

OK, actually their names are Velvet, Jingle, Noel, and Belle. They're all female, since most male reindeer have already lost their antlers by now. This is the first three and...

...this is Belle. Jingle reams on her constantly so she's the loner of the group. Poor Belle :(

This here is Noel.

Look at the rack on that one! *snerk* This is Velvet.

Velvet is the largest and I think she's the prettiest, since she's shed all of her velvet (fur on the antlers). But she's also the dominant one and tries to intimidate me with her antlers while I'm cleaning in the morning. Reindeer are small little things (they stand about waist height), but those antlers can be quite intimidating when they're pointed at you.

I believe this is Jingle.

OMG REINDEER!

Hehe. OK, that's all for now.

I'm also snagging this Christmas meme from [livejournal.com profile] jesouhaite47.

1. Hot chocolate or apple cider? Both. OK, leaning slightly more towards hot chocolate, especially White Hot Chocolate if available.

2. Turkey or Ham? Turkey. Don't usually have one on Christmas, but I love turkey leftovers from Thanksgiving.

3. Do you get a Fake or Real Christmas tree? Fake, and I wouldn't want it any other way. We've had the same fake tree for as long as I can remember and that MAKES Christmas for me.

4. Decorations on the outside of your house? Just a few light string, though I have 2 strings year-round in my own room.

5. Snowball fights or sledding? Sledding. I have good memories of sledding with friends in the backyard in Minnesota, on the big hill in town, and behind our dorm in college.

6. Do you like hanging around the fireplace because it’s warm? YES. Unfortunately there's no fireplace at my home here in California. Thank goodness I taped a Yule Log on TV one year, so I can always pop in that sucker.

7. Do you enjoy going downtown shopping? Gawd no.

8. Favorite Christmas song? Carol of the Bells, by far. I'll download any version I can get.

9. How do you feel about Christmas movies? ELF!! Love love love. The rest I could take them or leave them.

10. When is it too early to start listening to Christmas music? Never ;) I regularly get into Christmas moods throughout the year.

11. Stockings before or after presents? Before.

12. Carolers, do you or do you not listen to them? I'd listen to them.

13. Go to someone else’s house or they come to you? Ummm...both? It's not a tradition, so we've done both on various years.

14. Do you read the Christmas Story the night before Christmas? Nope.

15. What do you do after presents? Enjoy the presents, of course ;)

16. What is your favorite holiday smell? Hmm...hot chocolate. Or the smell of our old fake tree when we get it out of storage.

17. Ice skating or walking around the mall? Ice Skating.

18. Favorite Christmas memory: As a kid, me and my sister would wake up at about 4 in the morning and go to stare in awe at the pile of presents by the glow of the tree. Sometimes we separated them, but mostly we just stared, excitedly talking about what they could be and waiting for our parents to wake up.

19. Favorite Part about winter? Being inside with a cup of hot cocoa/apple cider/soup while it's freezing outside. That and all the variations of falling snow - fast sleeting snow through a window, catching huge, slow flakes on your tongue, or driving through falling snow in the dark like a re-creation of Star Wars space travel.

20. Food you eat this time of year that you may not during the others seasons. ...soup? No, Christmas cookies! We've already had tons.

21. Do you have winter sheets for your bed? No. But I was offered an electric blanket yesterday, which I may try.

22. Do you eat ice cream in the winter? I don't really eat ice cream much at any time of year.

23. Mittens or gloves? Gloves. You can't survive a Minnesota winter in MITTENS.

P.S. While looking for videos of falling snow, I found this memorable one of Portland drivers on an icy hill. (Also, I found a video of this cute guy talking about Star Trek. But he's in Canada...d'oh!)

Umm...the latest episode of CSI was messed up. Really. And that's all I'm gonna say about that.

What else? OH! [livejournal.com profile] suzvoy, I got your card! You wouldn't believe the squeeing fit I had when it arrived. Thank you so much! It's really cool to get mail from overseas. ;) *big giant hugs from across the pond*
