I'm alive!
Apr. 27th, 2005 09:04 pmThe last 5 days have been HARD. Finals ended Friday (thank GOODNESS) and we're in Spring Break, but if possible I am BUSIER. I am staying at college over break and taking a Wilderness First Responder intense 8-day course. Class from 8 AM to 5/6 PM and studying the rest of the time. I haven't been able to check Livejournal in days (skip=80 at the moment) and I'm barely keeping up with Creative. Plus I've wanted to play in Photoshop, and read a book, and do a whole bunch of other things, but just been way too darn busy. I'm short on sleep and behind on classwork. Thankfully we have tomorrow off, so I'm relaxing tonight, and catching up tomorrow.
It has been really interesting, though. At the end, I'll be a certified Wilderness First Responder, which is some intense medical training for the wilderness setting, where it may be a while to definitive care (a hospital). Thus far we've learned CPR and rescue breathing, spine stabilization and assessment, how to evaluate and treat burns, wounds, injuries, asthma attacks, anaphylaxis, concussions, dislocations, and toxins, bites, and stings. Still to learn is emergency childbirth, altitude, diving, thermo-regulation, drowning, frostbite, lightning, and backcountry medicine. It's very intense! But I'm very glad I'm doing it. I've never been medically-inclined, and it's helping me feel somewhat competant about these sorts of things.
We had an in-depth simulation today where I helped treat a burn victim and someone with a spinal injury (SIMULATION being key, here), and at one point I was holding a patient's head while others were packaging him for transport (spine-stable) and singing "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" with the victim. *L* That was quite memorable.
Anyways! Three more days of that and then I SWEAR I'll catch up on my friends list. For now, I'm going to collapse in bed because I'm EXHAUSTED. I hope you're all doing well!
