So...

It's been a while, hasn't it? I've taken to hooking my laptop up in the dining room so we can have music in there, but that meant I was far too lazy to carry laptop and various assorted wires over to the office, so I just haven't been getting on-line, or when I have, it's been from the intern computers (and I'm far too attached to Semagic). So...I had lots of things to update, but not the time or inclimation to do it.

So...my birthday. It was quite enjoyable, all things considered. Slept in and had a nice chat with my friends over breakfast. I got to go on the truck for the Wolf/Bison demo, and even though the Pillows didn't actually do anything with the bison, I had fun. The rest of the day went well, and when we got back home, I caught Austin Powers and A Night at the Roxbury on TV. The rest of the interns, and especially Vicki, were quite upbeat and threw together various edible concoctions from things in the communal IRV cupboard, and we all went out to the Fire Ring. It was a gorgeous cool night and the stars were out. They gave me a gift, which I totally did not expect. It was a picture and magnet from the Gift Shop of Kiri, my favorite wolf, and included was a card they had all written in with Miska on the cover. That was such a thoughtful and unexpected gift. Then we just sat around and played Truth or Dare (or more accurately, Truth or We'll Con You Into Truth) for hours, snacking on chocolate and intermitently howling with the wolves. We got into some pretty deep, personal secrets, and I got the feeling when we came out of that night we all felt more relaxed and open with each other. It was a great end to the night, and to a great birthday. And all of your wonderful messages and posts were very much appreciated!

Onward...on a pretty crappy clean up day (crappy because we of course we weren't allowed in with any of the wolves and were just watching staff go in, Amanda came up with the news that she had convinced the government to let us go back to the old way, which means we can go back to meeting wolves in their pen! So the next clean-up I got to go in with Deneb, Orca, and finally Karin and Alyeska. Having been there the longest, and knowing the most about how to act, I was one of the few interns to meet all those wolves that day, so they came up and interacted with me, which is what I've been waiting for the entire time. Orca was grumpy and guarding a hidden stash (Anya and even Pat got growled at), but Karin and Al both came up and sniffed me, and Karin even got right in my face and tried to scent-roll on my hair. Monty was taking pictures, so I now have my anticipated goal of a picture of me with a wolf!

Education Interlude we watched a video on postitive reinforcement training, and that was followed by a trip to a nearby stable to meet Pat's horse and see how she works with it. It was an amazing experinece. She not once tied up the horse or even put a halter on it. She could lead him around, get him to turn or lift legs on command, and go back to the stall without even touching him. I left even more intent on trying these techniques when I get home.

Sunday, after a pretty horrid day where I ran around trying to organize everything and it all falling apart, we had a barbeque and movie at Monty's, and ended the day wonderfully. We had steaks and burgers and Monty played his usual loud music, and then we watched Tombraider on Monty's huge big-screen TV and sound system. Monty has 3 large dogs, one of which is a wolf/dog hybrid, and I spent most of the movie scratching and petting and massaging Raffi, who found various different positions to lie in and get me to scratch his belly. We stuck around when Monty changed it to Olympics, and I stayed up until 2 AM watching Track and Field, Gymnastics, and Swimming, as we don't get NBC on our satellite in IRV, and this was the first Olympics I got to watch. I've always been a huge fan of the Olympics, and I was so disappointed I was missing so much of it. We watched again last night (an old intern staying at Monty's for the week invited us over) and I'm quite hoping this arrangement can continue ;)

So this brings me to my final week here. I'm leaving Saturday morning, and as much as I'm looking forward to a day off, and getting home and working with my animals, I'm going to miss this place so much. I'm going to miss all the great friends I've made here (interns and staff), I'm going to miss howling or just watching the wolves, and I'm even going to miss Animal Duty days and butchering. I've gotten everything I wanted out of this internship, and I don't have regrets, but I will miss it horribly. It's been a great summer.

And so I don't forget, I quite enjoyed Affinity for the most part, although of course I'm quite pissed at Sam for saying yes to Pete (even though I had been spoiled ahead of time). I'm just sick of this whole storyline at this point. I have a pretty good idea of the outcome, so it's just a pain having to go through with it anyway. Although the Sam/Jack discussion was quite interesting and one scene I had to watch over and over and over again. Yay for talking about it! Anyways...not much stuck out otherwise, though I kinda liked police!Pete doing his thing. PlotDevice!Pete is the one that pisses me off. And of course Teal'c kicking some bootay. It was so fun to see Teal'c out and about again.

Which one was this week's Atlantis? Darn this short term memory loss. Oh yes, Wraith!killer episode. So...I like the scottish doctor ;) Though didn't much care for the romance. The best part was Sheppard calling the wraith Steve. *snork* I also thought they cast the city/country/planet ruler guy quite well. He's the elderly bearded guy. Just thought he gave off just the right air of arrogance. So...in conclusion, yay Beckett, yay Shep, boo Romance Girl! An enjoyable ep, though not one that's sticking out for me.

So...on Saturday I head off to Chicago for the Stargate convention, yay! I bought tickets-plus-autographs for Saturday and Sunday, a total of $180 (ouch!), and my mom got a hotel room at the convention center, which is even more yay! So I'll get to meet Michael Shanks, Don S. Davis, Christopher Judge, and Amanda Tapping! Heeeee! This is definately one of the best birthday presents ever. Now...I'd just like to see if anyone else is going so I'll know at least one person there. Must spam Stargate communities!

Ok, this has been one HUGE entry and I'm sure I've forgotten a lot, but that's what's new with me!

ETA: Dude, LJ is messed up. It says my last entry, which I posted from their website on my birthday, was posted September 15th. Ummm, no.
