Okay guys, I'm finally doing my LA Filmfest write-up. It's a little late, but better late than never, right?

I had to work Sunday morning, so when I got off at 1:00 I booked it out of there to pick up [livejournal.com profile] lunayoshi. That was pretty awesome! We squeed...a lot. And listened to [livejournal.com profile] krisnreine's Walking in Memphis mix. And squeed some more. ;) It's so awesome to meet other philes in Real Life! So, after about an hour's drive we reached Laguna Hills and picked up [livejournal.com profile] balmyone. 3 philes in one car! It was all too much to handle. The rest of the trip went off without a hitch, though we of course hit LA traffic and reached the theater at about 4. We managed to get FREE parking pretty close-by, which was awesome. We found the theater and there was a gaggle of fans standing a few businesses away. [livejournal.com profile] balmyone had met some of them the night before (they had a meet-up! I'm so sad I didn't get to go), so we stopped and chatted for a bit. And I met [livejournal.com profile] erock_x! I may have squeed. But then again, I was squeeing a lot all-around. ;) They had made some big thank you posters for David, Chris, and Frank (Frank's was the biggest because he's so good to the fans, hehe) so we signed those. I may have put "David Duchovny, Why won't you love me?" on David's. *L* They said the theater wouldn't let them form a line in front, so they had started their own line a little ways down the block, though at that point there was only about 20 of us. [livejournal.com profile] lunayoshi, [livejournal.com profile] balmyone and I wanted to sit down for a while and watch some videos, so we wandered off to a Starbucks for a bite to eat. I had my laptop and [livejournal.com profile] lunayoshi had been spoiler-free, so we made her watch the trailer, the adorable M&S promos, and an erock video ;)

I brought season 5 on DVD with me, but I had Small Potatoes on my laptop so we watched that. It was outside at a busy intersection so the sound wasn't that good, but that was a ton of fun! After dropping my laptop off at the car and picking up my camera, we went back to the theater only to discover the line had grown exponentially. We met up with the girls we had met earlier, but some very pushy people had wrangled their way in front of them, so we were still near the front, but a ways back. We grumbled and moaned about this but it was all for the best in the end. ;) I was deliriously happy to be surrounded by so many other fans, so I took a photo of the line behind us.

There were as many people in front of us, and the line just kept growing! At some point it started going around the block. For some reason, the con organizers decided to move the line to the opposite side of the theater, which left us in the sun. They were supposed to let us in to the theater 15 minutes beforehand, but 7 'o clock comes and goes and we're still waiting outside! It was quite awesome, though. I couldn't believe I was there, surrounded by philes and going to see DD and CC and movie clips! As said, I squeed. A lot. We broke into song a few times, and there's nothing like belting out "Jeremiah was a bullfrog" with a bunch of fans. Oh! An I met [livejournal.com profile] dictatorcari! I was keeping my eyes peeled for her "My Name is dictatorcari" sticker, and she was standing right beside me the entire time! I took a picture of her sticker before I realized it's not entirely appropraite to point a camera at someone's chest without asking. *L* Here's [livejournal.com profile] dictatorcari!

And her sticker ;)

Mya!

I want this photo's companion, Mya. *L*

[livejournal.com profile] lunayoshi and [livejournal.com profile] balmyone!

Me!! *LOL*

And here's the signs we signed, and were given to David, Chris, and Frank during the event.

A few minutes after 7, we discover why it's so late - DD has just pulled in! They had a little red carpet area for press photos right in front of the theater, so as the line starts moving in, DD is walking up to it right next to us! I SWEAR he was walking up with Tea, but no one else saw this and I can't see her in my footage, so maybe I'm wrong? Anyways, we were all going NUTS because DD is RIGHT THERE and the line is going so fast and we just want to stop and snag a photo. The con people were rudely trying to keep the line moving as fast as possible, so I tried to snag a few photos as we walked 10 FEET AWAY FROM HIM! Turns out my camera was set on video mode, so instead of pics, I got a disjointed video. *L*

David! Right there! *whimper* I just wish we could have stopped and basked in the proximity of David Duchovny. Best part of the evening right there! So, once we were inside the theater we rushed up trying to get good seats, but everyone was saving all the good seats and more people were streaming in by the second, so we grabbed what we could. We ended up on the far right about half-way back. Not terrible seats but not great, either. Here's [livejournal.com profile] dictatorcari in the seats in front of us:

And [livejournal.com profile] lunayoshi and [livejournal.com profile] balmyone beside me:

I was sending frantic texts and almost called in for a quick squealing voice post when the event started. A Filmfest representative welcomed us and announced the guests (to which we all screamed), and then the clips started, that I posted earlier. It was so cool to watch clips with other die-hard fans, all gasping at the same parts and reacting to the same things. After the clips, the trio came out to screaming applause. I was so far back my pitiful flash and zoom could hardly get a photo. I gave up after 2 tries.

My videos are slightly better, but so much footage has been posted I'm not going to bother uploading it. If you really want to see it, though, just say the word.

So, the rest of the evening went by rather quick. Chris was quiet, David looked bored, Frank looked thrilled. Chris hardly said a word the entire time, and the other 2 kept checking in with him to see how much they could say. Nothing was revealed, or at least nothing we hadn't already heard. It was fun listening to them, though. And Gia was there! [livejournal.com profile] ranee42, am I leaving out anything important? Hehe.

So, when they left stage at the end there was a mad rush to the front to see DD, but we didn't even make it partway up before he was gone, and then we rushed to the exit to get our posters. As we passed out the door we each received a poster, but outside we realized they only had Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz's signatures. We went back to try to trade them in for ones with David's on them. I convinced the lady mine had a rip (it didn't) and got a new poster, only to realize that didn't have David's signature either. I pleaded with her until she pulled out some badly water-damaged posters with all 3 signatures. I gladly exchanged it, so now even though mine's all torn and wrinkled and frumpy, it has David Duchovny's signature!!

Someone wrote "Don't give up!" along the side, and while that may mean "Don't give these out because they're damaged", I prefer to believe Chris wrote it, as it's in the same color sharpie and David DID mention that Chris had a 3-word tagline that inspired him. Okay, so that's a long shot - leave me my delusions! ;)

All in all, it was a fantastic night. I got within 10 feet of David Duchovny, I saw movie clips, and I met a whole bunch of awesome philes! Thanks for the memories, everyone, and hopefully we'll meet again later! Check out their write-ups:

Okay, so you know how we were all singing Walking in Memphis right before the line started moving? Do you think David heard us singing? I just thought of that the other day and it really makes me laugh.

Anyway, I'm SO glad you posted the video of us walking past David. I'm still upset with myself for not having my camera out. I'd like to see your other videos, too, sometime. If you got any good parts of the panel, that is. I don't need to hear Chris talk about potatoes again. lol

*LOL* That would be hilarious if he had heard us. *dies*

That video! *LOL* It's so bad, like a bigfoot sighting, but I'm glad I got it too because OMG BEST MOMENT OF THE NIGHT! I wish I coulda gotten a picture too, darnit. I'll look through my panel footage, see if there's anything worth uploading. I got a lot of the moderator talking. *LOL*

This looks/sounds like so much fun! I'm so glad you had such a good time, but I'm also jealous, lol. You're lucky to live in an area where it's possible to do this sort of thing.

Also, I love that you guys watched Small Potatoes on a laptop on a streetcorner, and I love that [livejournal.com profile] dictatorcari put her LJ name (complete with little LJ man icon) on her sticker, lol.

Hey, do you mind if I add you to my flist? I always like your responses in [livejournal.com profile] xf_rewatch, and you seem like a cool chick. :)

I never thought I'd get to do anything like this! I lived in Minnesota during the original run, and when I finally moved out to LA the show was long gone. Then Wondercon was too far away and I was moving during PaleyFest, so I just could NOT pass up this opportunity. I won't even get to go to the premiere, as I will be racing to the airport to catch a flight. Darn it! But I'm so glad I got this one shining opportunity of a lifetime.

A week and a half late isn't bad!

Haha, I hate to break it to you, but that's not [livejournal.com profile] erock_x. That's Mya! Erock isn't in any of your pictures. :)

And thanks for posting that super flattering picture of me. LOL.

It was so good to meet you in real life!

Yaaaaay, it looks like you had fun! I'm jealous that you were even in the same zip code as DD, let alone saw him. LOL, I love your video, it's like a bigfoot sighting or something. It's like "OMG THERE'S DD IN BETWEEN ALL THOSE OTHER SHAKY FIGURES IN THE DISTANCE!" Heeee. Mulder would be proud.

ZOMG I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW!!! It's really sad that the highlight of the night for me was walking within 10 feet of him. *LOL*

*dies* The bigfoot thing is so true. I wish I had kept the camera rolling longer, I was just getting close to him near the end there!

aaaaaaahhhhhhhh so many fans in ONE PLACE!!! I can only imagine how amazing that would be sooooo jealous!!~~~~~ but YAY so happy you got to experience that! Jeremiah was a bullfrog!! AND YES YOU GUYS WERE SINGING WALKING IN MEMPHIS THAT IS MADE OF WIN! I hope DD *did* hear that because he always says the ending of PMP is his favorite!

hahaha somehow I got off on the picture captions, and I thought the picture of [livejournal.com profile] lunayoshi and [livejournal.com profile] balmyone was the one you'd labeled "ME!!" and I was thinking that neither of those people looked anything like you, and I stared at it for so long trying to figure out if you'd grown your hair out & dyed it, and yet it STILL didn't look like you, and then I started thinking that I couldn't believe I wouldn't have recognized you there, and then FINALLY I scrolled down and was like "heeeeey, THAT looks like Mem!" hahaha.

I LOVE that your poster has that "don't give up" thing! It seems so secretive... almost scary, like someone scrawled that as a secret message, an attempt to get the word out about something... it's so, so XF! ALSO OMG WTF YOU GOT ME A POSTER YOU SNEAKY, SNEAKY GIRL!! AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I FREAKED OUT?????~~~~~ (A LOT would be the correct answer!) ♥ ♥ ♥ !! I LOVE YOU x a billllllllion!

video of DD FTW! hahaha someone else commented that it was like a big foot tape, and that's so true and amazing. I literally GASPED out loud when I saw him on the vid... and you were THERE! ah I can't imagine!

*HUGS*!! I'm so glad you called me after this!! *mwah*

HEE IT WAS AWESOME OMG! Watching with philes is AWESOME because you know your craziness is welcomed and understood and everyone else is just as crazy as you are ;)

*LOL* I'm glad you finally figured out it wasn't me. I thought while compiling it "I usually label my pictures opposite, maybe I should change this? Naaaaah, nobody will notice." *L*

Yay poster! Hee. Yours is SO much prettier than mine, too. I wish it didn't have all the rips and tears, but it's still awesome. And I wish I knew what the writing on it MEANT! Someone asked Frank about it on his blog, but he didn't answer. Bah.

And hahahaha, it so is like a bigfoot sighting. It cuts out just as we're getting close, though. I wish I had kept it running longer because that was a moment to remember!

Have you read the article Frank wrote for TV Guide? These are the last two sentences:

I was also struck by the thought that this whole movie seemed so close to not getting made. And grateful that we never did give up.

I really, really think that "Don't give up!" is the important line that David was talking about. And now I'm SO freaking jealous of your poster!

I did. I still don't know if that means anything, but I hope it does because that would be awesome ;)

That is so awesome! How did you get tickets for that? I cant think of a better person to have gotten to go. Looks like you had great fun. You should have flirted with David! :-P

It was so awesome! Tickets were only $14.50, and they were on sale for a few days before they sold out. I was so eager, I bought mine the first day. *LOL* I figured I deserved to treat myself, especially as it was so cheap.

You all are so adorable. I saw you way down in the front. My husband and I were way in the back. My sister-in-law and her family were there, too. She was the woman who asked the potato question that I did not understand at all. I am adding you because we both live in the same city and love the X-files and love fan fiction and well, that's enough of a reason. Okay?

I have no idea what is going on with the banner situation. I still love yours, though.(;

I knew you were going and I hoped to see you there but I didn't plan out enough ahead of time! It was so much fun though. The potato question, really? *LOL* Most random question of the night, I swear.

Yay friending! I'd been considering it myself for a while but I can't even keep up with my regular flist at the moment. My apologies if I'm not up on things for a while!

No way, you live in Escondido? SERIOUSLY?!? SoCal really is phile central, isn't it? You should join in our XF marathons sometime. :) If you don't mind being surrounded by squeeing shippers, that is.

I'm in touch with [livejournal.com profile] mackenziegrace re: the banner. I am glad to help! And I really appreciate the compliment. :D

No, no. I have confused you. I am so dumb.
I live in the San Fernando Valley. Isn't Escondido near San Diego? I am always thinking you still live up here because you went to Moorpark. Or am I even more confused than I think I am? But you work down south, so of course you live there now too. (Head-desk) I think the person who lives closest to you that I know is Zellie ([livejournal.com profile] leucocrystal, who lives in San Diego.

Squeeing shipper marathons sound like fun, but alas, I don't like to drive alone at night anymore. Middle-age sucks big-time, as does my night vision.

I thought that was an insanely random comment on the part of my dear sis-in-law. But she is a total sweetneart, who has an entire room in her house devoted to fandom. You gotta love her for that alone.

*L* I thought so. Darn it! I still consider Moorpark home, as I lived there 2 and a half years and here only a few months. Yes, Escondido is about a half-hour North of San Diego, but I drive up to LA every so often to visit friends (and yes, night driving sucks!). Still, SoCal!

A whole room? Someone that devoted is a-ok in my book. *LOL*
