OMG, OMG, OMG, I made it. I got a second interview with the Oregon Zoo. I was so worried that I stumbled through a few questions, but the e-mail says "your interview went very well" (really?!? What interview where you sitting through?), so WHEW! That's a huge sigh of relief. It's REALLY hard not to get my hopes up at this point, but I'll continue to try. As I was lying in bed this morning I knew I had already gotten my hopes up more than I should. Okay. Whew! Next step:

- I have to send in a short video of me doing a show/presentation. Luckily I already have one from the Wild Animal Park, although it's of mediocre quality. It wasn't my worst show but it's not my best, either. Let's just hope it's good enough to get me through.
- They're going to contact my references. Let's hope they're all good enough.
- I have a second, longer phone interview with a panel of 3 in two weeks time. 2 weeks?!? I'm going to drive myself crazy worrying for 2 weeks.

As close as I can tell I am one of 4 applicants left out of a pool of 45 that applied, which is awesome but also makes me wonder at the qualifications of the other 3. Will my enthusiasm be enough? Because my one shortcoming in qualifications is that I don't have daily, routine experience with birds of prey, which is the majority of their animals. Oh, I hope I do well. I hope I hope I hope.

That is AMAZING. I wouldn't worry about the other three applicants, no matter what skills they may or may not have you're clearly just as good as them, and you're better than the other 41 people that applied. Enthusiasm goes a long way, anyway.

It was a short, preliminary interview just to weed out candidates, so I was only asked 4-5 very general questions, like "Tell me about yourself" and "why do you want this job?". Blah. I'm better with specifics. But apparently I did well enough to pass. There's only so many ways I can think of to say "I'm qualified and want to do the job"! *L*

and holy shit, that's a lot of stuff to go through to get a job! haha, you can tell I've only had jobs at restaurants and walmarts. I feel like just getting through all that is an accomplishment, and getting to this point.. I can't even tell you how impressed I am lol. Good luck for the next part!!!
(also, I was just talking to someone the other day about how I'd never been to Oregon/Washington/ most of those states up northwest, so if you get this I will TOTALLY be visiting you for crazy awesome fangirly times!! haha heck yeah!)

Dude, the professional job search is so much harder than I anticipated! I took CLASSES on it and it's still hard. You need to master the cover letter, the resume, the interview, phone interview, finding the appropriate job listings, networking. It's a whole 'nother set of skills on top of the skills you need to do the job itself. Bah. But I'd be glad to share my knowledge if you ever need it. I've learned a lot the hard way I wish someone would have told me.

ZOMG, yes, if this all comes together and you visit Portland it will be EPIC. I can't believe how long we've been talking about it and we've still never had our crazy fangirl meetup. Awwww. It WILL happen someday!
