Happy birthday [livejournal.com profile] courtney42! Hope it's a been a great day like it was here!

I had my first real Dogsledding class, and in my triple layers and pretty fair weather, I was really able to enjoy it. We practiced pedaling the sleds and harnessing the dogs, and we each got to lead one dog around working on commands to see how hard it was. I had a sweet like girl named Chewie, until we started walking around. She started growling and was very grumpy toward any other dog near her (and with 18 dogs in a little dog yard, that was a lot), and then she even started growling at me when I tried to lead her away. Turns out she was going into heat! Oy.

Anyways, we set up the sleds and the lines, and started attaching dogs. We took turns riding in 1-mile segments, and I got a great little team of 4 dogs: 2 smart and calm leaders, and 2 powerful wheel dogs that went so fast I had to ride the brake half the time to keep from running into the sled in front of us (with an 8-dog team!). It was exhilerating, but far too short! Next week we'll go on much longer trails, and I'll try to take some pictures ;)

Scifi's airing Stargate season 1 episodes in their marathon tonight, and heeee, I forgot how much I love some of season 1! Solitudes, guh. I'd only seen about half of it before, and I still missed the first 5 minutes this time, but I love it even more! That's hurt/comfort at it's finest, I tell you ;) But really, it's so exciting to see the dynamic between them at that stage, and even just to see them talk with each other about non-work things. I can't help but feel that they lost that dynamic somewhere along the way. Or more acurately, it evolved, but I still miss it. And Daniel. Hee. He's so cute when he wakes up from his head injury and asks about Jack and Sam. And when he has his little leaps of logic that solve everything. "What happens when you dial your own phone number?" (to Teal'c, *snork*)

And then there's Tin Man, which I also just adore (snarky!Jack, heee!). The emotion in that one is really enchanting. And finally, TBFTGoG. Good LORD I love that episode. Besides just a teench of ship (and I never noticed that quick little blurred kiss before), it's a wonderful Daniel episode. I don't think I'll ever grow tired of it.

dog sledding. Yet another reason I envy people who actually get snow. Sounds very cool.

I miss innocent excitable Daniel.

Pffffft. No, really, pffffft. Usually only people who HAVE sleds and dogs themselves get to go dogsledding. It just so happens that my college has a course in it, but it's the hardest class on campus to get into and it was only by waiting for 4 years and making other class sacrifices that I got in. Really, that's like wanting a desert so you can play in the oasis *L*

That being said...it is really cool ;)

I see your point. At least snow has other perks. Sand just gets stuck in new and unusual places. I know that owning a sled team is very expensive and a lot of work. I would be happy with just going somewhere to watch the teams run.
