And quite a lot to say.
First off, happy birthday to
suzvoy and
groovymulder! *big birthday hugs and best wishes*
Welcome to new friends
brandinsbabe,
g33k_powered, and
hawk_17! Sorry for not friending back...I have trouble just keeping up with my small current list! I'm bad, I know.
Yes, I finally, FINALLY saw it!! And lemme just say this: SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
I am one happy, happy shipper. Am completely torn about whether to rewatch the episode or read fic now. In any case, will be rewatching tomorrow because....squeeeee! I am a bit disappointed Sam didn't get to say her bit before temp!girlfriend came sauntering out, but hey, what we got was...*drools* *squees* *does general fangirly things*
And may I just say...thank GOD that awful, neverending, pointless plot thread is done with. Pete, that is. I've been saying ever since Chimera aired that it would end exactly like this, and lo and behold, here it was. I have nothing against Pete - in fact I rather liked him this episode! I almost wish I could see more of him (in a non-boyfriend role, of course), but the fact that he was so obviously a plot device meant the whole storyline just frustrated me endlessly. Rather glad that painful plotline is done with.
Could go with a BIT more of a concrete ending to the ship, buuut...I have no right to complain after that ep ;)
And oooo, great ending to the Anubis plotline! Didn't really see that coming. I was wondering how they planned to end that one. *pets Ba'al* I just love him more and more each episode. I could totally live with him sticking around and being a general nuisance in S9. I LOVED the team working together with him in Reckoning. If something happens to him in Moebius...please don't tell me. I'm spoiled enough for these episodes.
And for you die-hards, The LA trip! California was awesome. The college was awesome. Had a generally awesome weekend. Found David Duchovny on the cover of Redbook in the airport bookstores. I'm still such a fangirl. Arrived in LA just in time for rush hour, and got caught in the ENDLESS LA traffic trying to get out of the city. But I was totally fine with this as we were in LA and I had stars in my eyes. Yes, it took me a while to get over my endless fascination with actually being in Los Angeles.
Finally got out of the city and into the hills of Simi Valley at dusk. It was incredibly foggy the whole time, so didn't see much of the sights. Settled into the hotel and had a FABULOUS dinner at a local pizza place. Went to bed early due to jetlag after relaxing and watching some TV (no SciFi, no Threads :( ).

The next day, we drove the short distance over to Moorpark and found the college. The city itself is surrounded by amazing rolling hills unlike anything I've ever seen. The EATM program (Exotic Animal Training and Management) has it's own little zoo on the edge of campus, so we headed over there, enjoying the brilliant sunshine and the view. First-off was a little informational meeting (with over 50 prospective students and parents). They showed a little video about the program done by Jack Hannah (they also had their own TV show on Animal Planet a few years ago that I remember watching), and one of the teachers came in and showed off a baby orangutan they are raising for another zoo. It was the CUTEST little thing and absolutely amazing to be so close to it. We watched one of animal shows put on by the students (in which they had a coyote, which I was just ecstatic about). Basically, each student in their second year is assigned a bunch of animals for the year, and they have to care for and train these animals, plus run the shows and give tours of their little zoo. Everyone has a clicker and I saw students clicker training a lion, a sheep, a sea lion, a puma, a beaver, and much more. I was in heaven.
So they gave us a little tour of the facility and all their animals. I won't list them all but they have a lot, and I would love to work with all of them. So, lunch, tour of the regular campus, and back to the zoo for a question and answer session and financial aid. Basically, I've been screwed over because having my first Bachelor's Degree, I will not be eligible for any federal funding other than loans. Ugh. And money is looking like the big issue here. I'm ready and willing to do the work, I'm fine with living with roommates, and I'm even willing to not see any of my friends and family for 2 years (you get 1 week off in summer - the rest of the 2 years you have no days off), but money would be tight. But what they heck, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. I've only got about a fifty-fifty chance of being accepted anyways (they say they pick names out of a hat in May...ugh!).
OK, I'm rambling...the next day, the zoo was holding their annual Spring Spectacular, so we went out to enjoy the show and see more of the place in action. Highlights: seeing students work with the animals, such as this group with a mountain lion

and this student who is one of 7 "groomers" for one of their gibbons. I watched fascinated as the gibbon took turns grooming the girl and then turning to be "groomed" herself. Hee!

They also had some alumni stop by with a wolf, and I had my little squees about that. We checked out the rest of Moorpark before the long drive back to the airport. We still had half a day left, so we took our time going through the hills to the coast (where it was overcast, but lovely), and I convinced my mom to drive the extra 5 miles to Malibu. Searched for the Starbucks where David Duchovny is known to frequent, but no such luck. Took some pictures by a sign to prove I'd been there ;) And yes, I know I'm a dork. I'm just keeping up the tradition started by
melsyd and
ranee42.

We headed back to LA, stuck in traffic, but as dusk approached, we went down Sunset Blvd till we got to the Sunset Strip, then turned onto Hollywood Blvd to gawk at the pageantry and the Mann's Chinese Theater. We were in a hurry and it was dark out, so all we did was drive by, but I had to share this picture of a STRETCH HUMMER.

Could hardly believe that myself ;) Aaaanyways, never saw the famous Hollywood sign, but I had my fun. Drove back to the airport in plenty of time to wait for our redeye flight home. Still getting over the jetlag, but it was an awesome, awesome trip. Or so I believe I've mentioned.
If any of you actually made it through all that, congratulations. Thanks for humoring me ;) I can ramble a bit aimlessly sometimes!

Date: 2005-03-15 01:42 pm (UTC)It's on the corner of the PCH and Cross Creek. I do believe. I used to train a dog in a house off Cross Creek and drove past that Starbucks every other weekend. Knwoing it was the one both David and Gillian visisted, I took all the XF memorobilia off my truck.
Just in case.
:D
Glad my hometown treated you right. Moorpark looks cool - I remember when Animal Planet did a reality show there.

Date: 2005-03-15 07:47 pm (UTC)I think a lot of people are loving Ba'al. I, for one, would be very unhappy if he bit it.
I almost started to like Pete in this episode, but not enough to be glad to see him gone.
sounds like a really cool porgram. Here's hoping things work out for you.
the picture of Mulder and Scully cracks me up :D

Date: 2005-03-16 06:34 am (UTC)Threads was much with the shiptastic squeeage
*LOL* Excellent phrasing there. I completely agree. I haven't squeed that much in so long...or worn out my tape rewatching a scene so much ;)
Poor Pete...he really was an OK character. Just caught in a really bad situation. This always happens to me. I hate Sam's love interests when they're there, but as soon as they're out of the picture, I love them *L*. Martouf, Narim, and now Pete. Though I never quite got to like Joe Faxon...
Glad I could amuse you ;) Me and my mom were in fits of giggles taking that picture.
