Wow, it's been a while. Lots of news to report. Or maybe not that much. We'll see.
First off, Happy Birthday,
insaner2! I doubt you'll see this, but happy birthday anyway!
Wilderness First Responder finished on Sunday, and I now am fully trained and certified! Now that it's over, I really miss the class; even the early and long hours. I had the dorm mostly to myself, and a great group of people I saw day and night. Anyways, I'm very proud of myself for going through with that.
The day after that ended, classes started again, in our short-but-intense Spring Term, where we have just one class for a month. My class is Marine Biology, and as part of that we're going to an island off Honduras the 14th to the 26th. We'll be making over 20 dives and getting Advanced Open Water SCUBA certification. But until then, we have class in the mornings and the afternoons off, so I'm taking this as my break! Of course is was cold and SNOWING all through spring break, and now it's soared into the 60s, so I've been spending a lot of the day outside, reading by the creek. I'm also getting paid to teach my professor how to use Photoshop ;)
The best part, though, has been playing with a puppy. Last semester I brought my resume in to the campus career couselor for editing, and she noticed all the wolf and dog stuff I'd done. Turns out she's raising a puppy to be a service dog, and asked if I could help out by working and training the puppy a few hours a week. So three hours each week I get to work with Hugo, a fluffy 4-month old Golden Retriever. He has to learn a lot of commands and behaviors so he can be a service dog for a wheelchair-bound owner someday. It's amazing what he already knows, and how fast he picks up on things. This puppy is better trained than most of the shelter dogs I've worked with! Anyways, it's been an absolute delight to get to do what I love each week. Now if only I can get a job doing this.
Which brings me to my bad news: after several weeks of phone tag with the International Wolf Center, I didn't get the internship. Apparently I was a strong candidate, but I just could NEVER get ahold of her for a phone interview. I might not have been able to get it anyway, if I get accepted to Moorpark, but now I have to go back to the job search for this summer. And yes, still waiting to hear from Moorpark. They said they hoped to be sending out notice by early May, so every day I wait for the call. I just want to know whether I got in or not. That decision will affect the next 2 years of my life.
In fandom news...I'm stuck between 4. *L* I've been watching more West Wing and CSI, and saw some DARN shippy episodes of both. X-Files has also been pulling me back in since I caught an episode last week, and I've been reading lots of fic. And of course I still seek out my Stargate fix. The result is last night I read fic from all 4 fandoms. *facepalm* My current icon has been way too appropriate lately.
My muse has been finicky, too. I've been quite inspired to play in Photoshop, yet don't have much luck when I do. Only 2 for now.

Anyone want to work together on something? Perhaps that would force me to create something ;)
I think that's it. I'm sure I've bored you all greatly...I'm much better at the commenting thing than I am at actually posting. *L* Love you all!

Date: 2005-05-07 02:25 pm (UTC)But yeah, I've got nothing to complain about with all the other cool stuff going on. I haven't mentioned the Honsuras trip for so long because I feel rather spoiled after Australia and Mexico last year ;)

Date: 2005-05-07 02:28 pm (UTC)Yeah, it's been a very busy month. All the graphics communities seem to slow down a bit this time of year (because so many of the graphics artsist are school-age *L*).
*hugs* to you!

That sounds like the greatest job ever... the most I ever trained my dog to do was 'sit', and that's on a good day. Sorry you missed the internship, but it sounds like you're flexible enough to work in a bunch of different places. Hope something new will turn up soon!
How hot is that Jack icon? Love the swirlyness!
