Day One

Well! Spent all yesterday on the drive down to Battle Ground, Indiana, and today was my first day at my new internship at Wolf Park. Lucky me, I started on a Monday. This is the one day of the week the park is closed, so we get to spend all day working instead of lounging around the gift shop or giving tours. We weedwacked for hours, then filled holes with dirt, and then trimed bushes. Also spent a fair amount of time AVOIDING work (hey! we're not getting paid here!), so it was quite nice getting to know the other interns and practicums. Then we went out for a bite to eat, which was again very nice. So I really can't complain. It's pretty much just as I expected, and hey, we were surrounded by wolves and foxes and New Guinea Singing Dogs, so it's all cool. Oh! And the wolf puppies were out in their little enclosure and we often stopped just to watch them. Weather is quite pleasant, too. And now I'm exhausted. Turns out I can connect my laptop at any time, so internet access shouldn't decrease too terribly much (though I'm terribly behind on Friends list, sorry!).

Going to try to finish Creative while I still have time. Hope everyone's week has started well!

Edited to add: Forgot to mention. I made art!

Ugh.

I spent 2 hours last night wrapped around the toilet. Didn't throw up, but felt awfully close. Spent the next two hours deep breathing in my room, but my roomies were so nice and kept me company. Definately feeling better today, but still taking it easy. Ugh, I hate being sick. Especially with nausea. Ugh, ugh, ugh.

Before that hit I did make some Stargate art.

Heroes 2 Sam

And just 'cause it's what's on my mind, [livejournal.com profile] jesouhaite47, I'm hoping your week turns better soon! And [livejournal.com profile] krisnreine, I'm so amazed by your talent.

Haaaaaa!

So I was randomly flicking through the channels and came across a station playing X-Files S9 episodes. It's the beginning of Lord of the Flies. OK, so...not the best episode, and definately not the best season in my opinion. But I was oddly proud of it. And then Scully came in. I am glad to report my girlcrush has not gone down one bit ;) She did her little autopsy thing, and I could have squee'ed (yes, I just made my own word). I miss Scully. I miss my ship. I miss my show.

Oh, and I made a little Stargate collage. Little. Because it's too much work to make big ones anymore. Just having some fun with Daniel pics ;)

The Wonder

Well, I was reading some of [livejournal.com profile] nandamai's hot hot fic, and got a bit inspired, and played...and this so did not turn out well. You can't even make out Sam's picture and the text is crap and what's with the snail?!? Whatever, I'm done.

Crappy!Art! )

Oh, and gummi worms gooooood.

Ugh.

So, Lost City part 2...everyone's talking about it, and dangit, it sounds like they like it, and DANG IT, I haven't even seen part 1!!! This is killing me.

Made a wallpaper. Started off going for a Sam/Jack angle, but then it went in a 'gate angle. Mostly because Scifi aired THE MOVIE!! I'd only ever seen it once before and I'd been falling asleep near the end (this was before I really got into the show). And I LOVED it. Forgot how CUTE James Spader is. Anyways, back to the art...I coulda put the rest of the team in there, but by that point I didn't want to ruin the balance of it by messing with it. *shrugs*

Door to Heaven

I was just walking across campus to go get dinner, and I noticed some of the trees running along the path on the way there were decorated with snow. The trunks of 5 pine trees had snow fastened to them in unique configurations. One had polka dot clumps of snow, one had a grid pattern, one had lines of snow running up, and one had a long trail of snow that twisted around the trunk for a full 7 feet. It was quite interesting to see, and made me smile. If they're not melted by tomorrow I'll try to take a picture.

Other news, other news...oh yes. I was considering graduating after one semester next year, but now I'm pretty set on staying the whole year. I only have to finish 3 more courses to graduate, so as is I will be taking some "fun" classes to fill in the time, but I just have to stay until Spring. The Biology department is running a Marine Biology trip to Honduras May 2005, that includes tons of scuba diving and snorkeling, and even swimming with dolphins. Yup. I love scuba diving, and snorkelling, and I'm in college for animal behavior so observing dolphins actually has to do with my major. I'm already SCUBA certified, and I'll be a senior, so I'm almost certain to get in. And it's $2600, which after Australia's $4000, is small potatoes. I so have to go on this trip. *drool*

OK, OK, back to more present matters. Inauguration was...eh. A clip show. Boooooring. The president's pretty cool, though. I like that actor. Ship mention...WTF?!? They're not even trying anymore, are they? Feels like they just threw that in there to please the shippers. Well, it didn't. Not this shipper, anyway. Regardless, I immediately recorded over it with "Fallen", which I hadn't seen yet, and was much more interesting. Daniel calling Jack "Jim"...*snort*.

Oh! And I made art! Real art, not just icons. Well, I've been doing a few things recently, but this is really back to my collaging roots. It's a wallpaper! What's more, an X-Files wallpaper! Got inspired, played around. I forgot how wonderful it is to get caught up in the craft, the challenge and fun of creating. I don't do it enough anymore. Well, here it is:

1024x768 <|||> 800x600

Oh, and I'm a bit behind in doing this, but it's such a cool idea. It's possibly a bit outdated, too. Friends of friends!

Sit me down in front of my computer and tell me to write a paper that will obviously take hours? Yeah right. So what do I do while intermittently studying? Make a manip. It's not a particularly FANCY manip, but it satisfied my sappy inner shipper.

So sappy. )

I made it on PS7, because I want to get more comfortable with this version. It did fine, and being able to layer mask is all sorts of helpful. I do, however, have a question for anyone who knows the software better than I do: is there an airbrush tool? Photoshop Elements has an airbrush tool that will layer whatever you're brushing on at a lower opacity that you can set. I figured out how to change the opacity of the paintbrush in PS7, but it won't build up if you brush over the same spot again. It only builds up to whatever opacity you set it at, whereas the airbrush tool will build up if you brush over the same areas again. I'm probably not making much sense, but this is something that's been bugging me...

And now, I REALLY should get back to that paper.

Just came out of Intro to Philosophy where we watched Waking Life. Very strange movie. Messing with my mind. In other news, it's cold as a witch's you know what here. -16 F WITHOUT windchill. They cancelled all the public schools, but of course we still have to go.

Eeehee!

I love Maternal Instinct. It's a fabulous Daniel episode and it's got some great team interactions. Good storyline, great effects, and hey, I even like the monk guy. It's not a shippy episode at all but I just love the heck out of it. I think Season 3 may be one of my favorites!

I also made a Sam wallpaper. Simple, but for once it's a wallpaper I'm glad to use myself. Intro to Fine Arts really did come in useful!

I made a pretty! :D So...my roommate's former roommate (got that?) was making up my roommate's hair, curling it and what-not while we watched a movie on TV (The Birdcage), and when she finished, she put on her pretty dress and some make-up. Then we went out into the hallway and took pictures *L*. Here's one I took and then played with endlessly. I'm very happy with it. Brush by Evenstar!

Pretty pretty. )

So...a good night's sleep has given me some perspective and I'm much happier with Grace. Oy! I watch whole sections of it endlessly (the Jacob talk through the kiss) and I'm afraid I'm going to run my tape ragged *L* Color me happy, anyways. Now if only Chimera would get here already...

I won an award! For an icon I didn't even submit to a contest! I was one of two winners in the "ship" icon section of this week's [livejournal.com profile] stargatecontest, for a Daniel/Janet icon I made for [livejournal.com profile] fraiser_jackson. That was quite a surprise.

AND...I made art! One of Kim's fabulous collages came across my screen saver (yes, I showcase my favorite artists as my screen saver *L*) last night and it inspired me to make a similar glowy collage. And this is my first real Stargate collage. Once I made the glowy base, I took a minute to decide whether I wanted to go X-Files or Stargate, and I eventually went Stargate. I feel a bit guilty for finally "moving on" like so many artists have before me, but making art for a new fandom holds an excitement that I couldn't resist. It's an active fandom, with new epsiodes to look forward to, but also...my entire Photoshop experience has been in the X-Files fandom, and everything I make feels like it's already been made before. This way I feel like I'm making something new, something this fandom has never seen before. OK, I'm probably getting overdramatic here, so I'll just get along with it. Brushes by myself and Insomniac, pics from Getty, Thalassa, and Dedicated to Stargate SG1.

Arty art art.

Sorry for the ramble.

Woohoo!

And finals are DONE! So what am I doing up at 3 AM? Good question. Still have to pack, as I'm heading home tomorrow for Christmas break. But really I was reading fic. And making art. Fic art! Yes, I made a dustcover.

Arty art art. )

Other than that....still very tired. Need a few days to recuperate, but dangit, I'm so much less stressed now that I have no more tests or papers or anything. Gonna enjoy break with my family. Think I'm gonna give up on a domain-name and just release my pinch-me address. I just can't get enthused about any of my domain options. But it'll be nice to have that move done. OK, gotta pack. It's hard deciding what to bring with me for three weeks. See you all soon!

Never let me surf Marina's sites before I go to bed. Got me so inspired I had to open Photoshop and create.

eh. Maybe I should stick with Tere-style. )
